Is the "National Youth Empowerment Fund 2026" Grant Real or Another Scam?

Another "Federal Government grant" message is circulating on WhatsApp and SMS again. It claims the National Youth Empowerment Fund is giving out ₦150,000 to ₦700,000 to Nigerians between ages 13 and 65. It sounds like a dream come true — which is exactly why you need to pause and read this before you click anything.

What the Message Claims

The viral message says:

  • The "2026 online registration" is now open
  • Applicants aged 13–25 can get ₦150,000–₦300,000
  • Applicants aged 25–65 can get ₦400,000–₦700,000
  • Payments have "just begun" for all applicants
  • You must apply through a link: https://Pyes-grant.empower-youth.life

It usually ends with instructions to share the message with friends and family on WhatsApp.

Why This Is a Scam — The Red Flags

1. The Website Domain Is Fake

Official Nigerian government programs use domains ending in .gov.ng. This link ends in .life — a red flag on its own.

2. It Has Already Been Debunked

Fact-checkers have confirmed this exact "National Youth Empowerment Fund" message is a hoax. The scheme has been officially disowned by the government it claims to represent.

3. It's a Phishing Trap

The website's real purpose isn't to give you money — it's to collect your personal information. Once you enter your details, you may be asked to share the link with 15 friends on WhatsApp to "complete" your application. This is how the scam spreads.

4. The Numbers Don't Add Up

Grants that promise hundreds of thousands of naira to anyone between 13 and 65, with no verifiable application process, do not exist. Real government grants have official portals, clear eligibility criteria, and verified announcements.

5. "Payments Have Just Begun" Is a Classic Pressure Tactic

Scammers use urgency to stop you from thinking clearly. The phrase "payments have just begun" is designed to make you act fast without verifying.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Verify before you click. Check if the program is announced on an official .gov.ng website or a verified government social media page.
  • Never enter personal details on unofficial links.
  • Do not forward the message. Sharing it puts your friends and family at risk.
  • Report the message to WhatsApp or your network provider.

What to Do If You Already Clicked

If you entered your details, don't panic — but act fast:

  • Change any passwords you may have used
  • Watch for suspicious calls or messages
  • Report to the appropriate authorities if you shared bank details

Final Word

The "National Youth Empowerment Fund 2026" grant is a scam. There is no free money waiting at the end of that link — only a trap. Before you trust any grant or empowerment program, verify it through official channels. Your personal information is valuable. Don't give it away to a fake website.
